The event is completely underwritten by Nordstrom and 100% of ticket sales will be split between both organizations.

"As a company, it has always been a priority for us to give back to the communities that we serve before we open our doors," said John Banks, Nordstrom Rideau Centre store manager. "We are truly impressed by the reach and impact of these organizations in Ottawa and beyond, and we couldn't be more proud to support them through our opening gala."

Every two hours someone in Ottawa will be diagnosed with cancer. With more than 30,000 people currently undergoing treatment for cancer in the community, the Cancer Foundation has stepped up to provide Cancer Coaching. The Cancer Coaching team is made up of accredited health professionals (nursing, social work, kinesiology, nutrition and physiotherapy) who have a background in oncology. They provide the patient with valuable information, navigation support and practical guidance through every stage of cancer from diagnosis to treatment to post-treatment and palliative care. Funds raised through the Nordstrom Rideau Centre opening gala will help support this service for Ottawans.

"Nordstrom is a recognized name around the world symbolizing great style and fashion, and we are incredibly proud to be one of the beneficiaries celebrating the opening of the Rideau Centre store," explains Linda Eagen, President and CEO of the Cancer Foundation. "The funds raised at the Nordstrom gala opening are going to be invested in providing local families with access to personal cancer care that focuses on their individual needs and empowerment."

Project step (support, treatment, education, prevention) is the Ottawa community's response to addressing the need for substance abuse treatment as well as prevention and early intervention for youth in both mainstream and non-mainstream academic settings. It is a community investment involving community partners, local champions and leaders. Money raised through gala ticket sales will benefit Ottawa youth getting help through project step.

"Nordstrom is active in the communities in which it operates and has built a strong reputation as a thoughtful, responsible, philanthropic partner in the retail landscape," said Michael Allen, President and CEO of United Way Ottawa. "This is why United Way Ottawa is honored to partner with Nordstrom."
